The weather has been beautiful for you.

Weather is a silent component of our experience of landscape. It can modulate our awareness of the features of a space, our comfortability and relationship with a space. It can influence how long we linger, how we read a place. How we then re-constitute that place in our memory.

This project is intended as a gentle transformation of the experience and awareness of landscape.

As if the sun were always shining.

AN ASSISTED VIEW.

Filmed through binoculars, en route to Rostock, Germany.

THE MIRRORS WOULD DO WELL TO REFLECT MORE.

A periscope was constructed from storm-water pipe and mirrors.
The periscope leads the viewer’s eye to a subtitled video recording, hidden from external view.

This work is premised on the mathematical concept of an ‘encoded universe’, and explores the ways in which we perceive and create meaning from the signs and symbols that surround us.

The title is drawn from the Jean Cocteau film, Orphee, in which the protagonist picks up strange, repeated and undetermined radio broadcasts, which are in fact syntactic, coded messages.
